Biography
Hi! I'm am one of the original founders of our club the Major Taylor Iron Riders. I have also had the honor of being the club's first President. One of the biggest joys that I get today is seeing how the club has grown. We have all different types of nationalities and ages who have started cycling at different points in their lives. The one thing that we all have in common is our love for cycling. We also all honor the legacy of Marshall "Major" Taylor, the first African American Cycling Champion and the 25th Regiment Army Corps referred to as the Iron Riders.
I started riding with L&M Tourers, New York City's first African American cycling club back in 1979. The Major Taylor Iron Riders and Major Taylor Cycling Club of New Jersey are direct descendants of that legendary club. The spirit of Lucille and Mildred Smith, both retired and doing well, guides our club as we move forward.
My wish to all of my new Major Taylor Iron Rider teammates is that they will enjoy the sport as long as I have and have the rich friendships that I have developed over the years.
